Partitions

At McLaughlin Taylor Drylining, we specialise in the construction of load bearing structural framed systems (SFS) and non-load bearing metal framed (MF) partition wall systems. These wall systems are efficient and cost effective and can be used in all types of new and existing buildings. Partition walls cover all applications from room division through to high performance walls designed to suit specific design requirements. Our in-house team can advise you with height requirements, thermal insulation properties, sound insulation as well as fire and impact resistance. We liaise with many technical departments to ensure we give you the best advice possible.

Metal Stud Framing

Metal stud framing is used to construct non-load bearing internal partitions suitable for all types of commercial and residential developments. This method of building internal walls has many advantages including speed of installation, ease of reconfiguration, as well as been significantly more cost effective compared to masonry alternatives.

Structural Framing System (SFS)

A structural framing system (SFS) is used to construct load bearing internal and external walls. SFS is a light gauge, galvanized steel structural framing system suitable for a wide range of applications throughout the construction industry. Here at Mc Laughlin Taylor we specialise in external building cladding using the Metsec structural framing system. The metal framing can be finished with various materials for the external facade such as insulated render, metallic panels or Corium cladding achieving a weatherproof structure. The inside can then be insulated and dry lined ready for decoration. SFS can also be used to provide high separating walls for factory units or atriums

Drylining

Dry lining is broadly defined as the use of plasterboard to line a metal frame partition. As opposed to conventional masonry blocks built with mortar and plastered (“wet trade”), dry lining is essentially dry. The quick and easy installation is the main advantage gained from using dry lining. Dry lining is lightweight, thus creating great flexibility in a structure’s foundational requirements, design changes, future expansion and periodic internal alterations. The type of plasterboard used determines the walls thermal, acoustic and fire retention properties. A plaster boarded wall may be finished by using a paper tape and joint filling process to achieve a smooth, continuous surface ready for decoration.

Insulations

Acoustic Insulation

A good acoustic environment will optimise the efficiency and functionality of any work or living space. In schools, children need to be able to hear and understand teachers; healthcare environments need privacy and peace; offices need quiet zones; and factories often need to minimise noise. For this reason, acoustic solutions are now widely factored into new builds and refurbishments, resulting in dramatically improved outcomes for all.

Acoustic products are specially designed to deflect, reduce and absorb sound. They range from cavity insulation and suspended ceiling panels to specialized plasterboards used in wall partitions. Acoustic insulation products are widely used in many sectors including industry, commerce and healthcare.

Thermal Insulation

Using the correct insulation materials in any build will dramatically improve the energy efficiency and comfort for the occupier. Drylining provides greater flexibility in the choice of insulations materials that can be used. An insulated or thermal liner is the most cost effective method and may be fixed in several ways, including mechanical and adhesive systems. These systems involve mechanically fixing to the metal frame or adhesively fixing directly to the wall using traditional dot and dab bonding. Perimeter gaps are sealed using specialist materials such as air-tightness membranes & tapes, helping to achieve the desired U value as well as acoustic and fire ratings.

Fire Insulation

Building requirements demand that cavities and concealed spaces, in the structure or fabric of a building, are sub-divided or sealed by means of cavity barriers or fire-stopping to restrict the hidden spread of smoke and flames, this is known as Passive Fire Protection (PFP). This is of prime importance since many buildings are honeycombed with concealed cavities and voids within the roofs, floors, and walls.

McLaughlin Taylor Drylining in association with Fireus UK, and can supply & install a wide range of PFP products to ensure that the building meets today’s fire safety standards

Ceilings

There are two main types of ceilings, Metal Framed (MF) Ceilings and Suspended Grid Ceilings.

Metal Framed (MF) Ceilings

An MF ceiling is where plasterboard is fixed to a concealed metal grid which is in turn then fixed to a structural concrete soffit above. This creates a void above the ceiling which can be used to conceal services such as pipes, cables, ducts, and light fittings. MF ceilings can also be used to create various styles of bulkheads which can be constructed in any shape or size. The plasterboard can then be plastered or finished using a paper tape and joint filling process. The type of specialised plasterboard used will determine what fire, acoustic and thermal rating can be achieved.

Suspended Grid Ceilings

Grid Ceilings consist of tiles hung within a metal grid system with the main advantage been the ease of access for services. There are many options regarding the types and styles of tiles and we can offer advice to suit each project. Suspended grid ceiling systems can be installed to suit any design feature as well as fire safety and acoustical needs. Grid ceilings can also can also be used in cinemas for acoustics, in hospitals for hygiene, in clean rooms for minimal dust.
